Over the last few years we have been campaigning to have the sunken garden in Rookery Park restored. This month has seen Bob, Robert and Gareth able to declare success with £100,000 of funding secured to carry out the work. Popular local Cllr Bob Beauchamp said “we are delighted to have secured this funding to carry out improvements around the garden area. These improvements will, as well as restoring parts of the garden to former glory, also ensure that the work makes the garden brighter and more pleasant for local residents all year round. We will see a mixture of herbs and perennial plants used that will add colour and smell to the area. The restoration of the paths and steps has been long overdue.”
Improvements to the Rookery Sunken Garden include:
· All the steps to be restored and rails added
· The paths to be replaced with conservation stone
· Trees to have low lying branches removed to prevent fires being started
· Old stumps removed and new plants added
· Hedge to be replaced, rose beds to be repaired
